Landscape Artist working in Oil, Watercolor and Pastel
Carl was born in Moline, Illinois and raised in a strong creative environment. His pursuit of artistic interests led to a degree in Fine and Applied Arts from the University of Illinois. He followed a career path in graphic design and eventually became co-owner / creative director of Twin Cities advertising agency, Chance / Nelson & Associates. Along the way, he developed his lifelong love for painting.

Carl's art focus has always been based in the natural world. As a child, he took every opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and today paints on location whenever possible, "For me, exploring nature with brush in hand combines two of my passions...art and nature, and it's a great way to get lost." He packs his art materials for every trip. That allows for some painting opportunities in unique locations like the BWCA, where he has painted every year since his first trip there in 1978. Carl also lived in Montana for a number of years and continues to travel and paint in the West whenever possible. He draws inspiration from the work of numerous Impressionist artists of past and present. When the opportunity presents itself, he expands his own education in workshops with other artists. Carl is a member of various Arts organizations and has won numerous awards in competitions over the years. He has exhibited throughout the Midwest and his work can be found in both private and corporate collections.

Carl lives in Eden Prairie, MN with his wife, Marsha. He has three children: Luke, Emily and Jeffrey who all live in the area. In addition to his communications business, Carl is an adjunct instructor at Dakota County Technical College currently teaching Design and Typography.
