This show offers a view of nature through Carl's selective observations. His art combines a lifelong love of the outdoors with a passion for expressing form, light and color. His work also reflects a strong compositional design emphasis, stemming from his educational and professional background in graphic design.
This display of pastel, watercolor and oil paintings encompasses a variety of landscape venues, including a featured focus on some unique settings found at the Arboretum. In addition to his studio work, Carl has included some of his field studies - location pieces done with the intent of capturing actual light and color. While these are paintings in their own right, these studies also serve as references for larger studio paintings. These outings also provide him with the opprtunity to become more closely connected to his subjects.
